My pregnancy journey (Baby project VII - Baby dress)

This baby dress is so simple it can be completed within a day. This DIY is taken from SeeKateSew and it's perfect for tropical country. I bought this fabric from hometown and it costs RM12/metre. So that makes this dress less than RM12! What a steal! Nowadays, a baby's dress can cost more than an adult's dress at some baby retail shops.

Without further ado, let's get onto the tutorial.

SeeKateSew uses elastics for the straps but I did not have them, so, I made the straps without the elastics. You can get the pattern from her link and this pattern makes 3-9 months dress.

First, cut out 4 bodice pieces from the pattern linked. Then, cut out 4 strap pieces; 2 front, 2 back (10" by 3") and 1 skirt piece (10" by 44").

For the straps, sew each rectangle into a tube and flip it to correct side.

Then, pin two straps in place from the top of one bodice piece.

Then, pin the second bodice piece over the first, make sure it's right-side facing down. Sew the top edge until the underarm edges. Trim off seam allowance and flip it over. Now, we're done with the front bodice. Follow through the same steps for back bodice. Once done with the 2 bodice pieces, sew the side seams (the short sides below underarm) together to become one whole bodice piece.

Gather the skirt piece using a baste stitch. Then sew up the side seam to make it into a skirt.

Attach the skirt to the bodice by pinning right-sides together.

Hem the bottom edge and I also added a strip of lace around the waistline.

And we're done!

This dress will be super cute if worn over a pair of bloomers. :)

Psst: currently super obsessed with printed cotton fabrics!
